Extra CURRICULAR Ensembles
Marching Black-Hawks & Color Guard
Marching Black-Hawks is composed of students from all classes and grade levels. The season begins with music reading sessions in the summer and continues with band camp beginning at the end of July and the first week of August. The marching band performs at football games and competitions during the fall. We end the season with a showcase at Mountain View High School with all five Stafford County High Schools performing at Band Against Hunger.
Color Guard is open to band students as well as students who are not enrolled in band classes. Guard members practice and perform with the marching band and are members of the band program. Students are selected by audition prior to marching season (usually in May).
The Benny Black-Hawk Big Band
Big Band is another new ensemble that Mr. Thompson started in 2022. Big Band is a fun lively ensemble that plays music from the big band era including Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Sammy Nestico, and Duke Ellington. Singers from the Choral Department frequently participate in this ensemble.
